Fall Update

Rach & I lead Bridge Families in Kansas City where we support families that are stepping in the gap for children that often don't have a voice.  We rely on our experience and training over 15 years of foster parenting and adoption.  We both believe that every child belongs in a family that not only provides the basic needs, but supports the child to become all their potential holds.  This often looks like phone calls in the wee hours with parents in crisis.  Sometime this opening our home to host those in between housing.  Assisting with getting re-established and re-launching into their own plan.  Whether that is an apartment or dorm going on with further education.  This has included provision of meals, clothes, and lodging in the form extended stay hotel rooms for a week or two until a plan can be established. We live in an area that leads to us easily seeing those in need.

We also are the executive directors for Mike Eden Ministries, Little Eden Children's home.

This ministry operates a children’s home just outside of Mukeu, Kenya.  The ministry supports 67 children and full time staff of 28.  Many of those are in trade school, college, or university.  Day to day there are 38 children living on site with the staff.  The staff not only supports the needs of the children, but operates a farm to support the home and community with food.  We also provide free access to clean water from our well.  This ministry is having a massive impact on the community.  As we expand to support families of the children we have seen an opportunity to have a greater impact beyond the local community. We are working with our team in Kenya to adapt and understand the challenges of supporting families of the children in care of the home. Today the children’s home in Njabini, Kenya is supporting 67 children and a full time staff of 28.  This home operates a farm that provides access to milk, eggs and other produce to the local community.  The home also provides free access to clean water.  The staff work diligently to provide the basic needs to the children living in the home.  Day to day the laundry alone is a massive undertaking.  Breakfast is prepared beginning at around 4 a.m. in two locations. The is a girls dorm and boys dorm separated by about mile.  Lunches are packed for each of the children with care to meet their individual likes and desires.  Dinner is always a hot meal, heaping off of the plate for every child with many taking seconds that frankly, I don’t understand how they finished the first portion. Food, shelter and safety needs are met daily for the children by the dedicated staff.

This August we lead a team that included a guest speak to lead a women's conference in the local church.  We chose to sponsor the guest speaker's flight costs completely out of Bridge Families.

Women's Conference Highlights

The travel cost for us to serve in Kenya has also been covered by Bridge Families for the last couple of trips.  We see just how far those dollars given to Little Eden's can go to serve the children and staff.

We see the need is great and ask for consideration that you would support our work.
